Alice and Kids

These are the last 2 photos in the second album.

Baby Dot and her pull toy
No date, but likely 1918

Alice, top right, with a passel of kids
Elwood J. is to the right of Alice. Is that his sister Betty in front?
My guess is that this photo is from around 1932.

****************

The next batch of 75 or so photos I'll post are loose, not pasted in albums. Most of them have helpful info on their backs, which means I can arrange them by decade, so the images will appear in something like chronological order for a change, and some will even be in color. The photos date from the 1890's (Elwood G.'s baby photo) to the late 1950s/early 1960s—when Grandma Alice moved to her home in Fanwood, New Jersey.

Dot and Joe, Helen and Flo

No dates on these but the first two were most likely take in 1918.
Joe, Dotty, and Helen

Dot (not Ruth; even Grandma got them mixed up.)

This one is a favorite. It's of Helen and Flo @ 1920.
I love their happy, goofy grins and their excellent bathing costumes.
We saw them all grown up in the blog entries posted on May 15-17.

Children on the Grass & The Bathing Beauties

Who is this baby? A cousin? A niece or nephew? Photo undated.

This looks like Ruthie, Helen, and Dot with the same baby; date unknown

 Alice and the bathing suit beauties return here, with stockings rolled, above;
with lollipops, below; no date on either photo

April 11, 1920 & Alice Holding Baby Dot, 1917

This photo was taken 92 years ago--almost to the day of our posting.
Who are these lovely children?

 Tough little Ruthie, no date

Alice holding a tiny baby Dot in her christening dress,
most likely June or July, 1917;
also most likely Dotty's first photograph

Three Sisters and More

Another "Day at the Beach" photos. No date, but other beach photos were dated 1921.

Alice holding little Elwood J., probably 1926.

Three Bierbaum sisters, most likely in 1920.

Dot & Ruth

Little Dotty! This photo must have been taken around 1919.

Bierbaum Sisters with Geisha Girls

Ruth and Dot sandwiched between the "geisha girls." Ann and Alice in the back row.
What a sweet picture.

Ruth, 1922.

A day at the beach: Alice and her papa, with Ann Fischer. Who is the fellow to the left?
Those bathing togs don't look very comfortable.

May, 1922

Best guess: These photos are from a Memorial Day outing.

Elwood G., Bobbie, and Alice's mother Mary Bierbaum, out for a ride. What a great car!

Penciled in next to their names--"May 1922."

 See any familiar faces?

Alice and Siblings, 1918

Finally some siblings. Alice had two brothers and four sisters: Anne (b. 1899), Robert (b. 1900),
Helen (b. 1910), Joseph (b. 1912), Dorothy (b. 1917), and Ruth (b. 1919). Alice took a lot of pictures of her two youngest sisters, as you'll see. They were so close in age, that even she had trouble telling them apart in the photos. On the one at bottom, you can see that she crossed out Ruth and wrote in Dot

Friend Ann Fischer is here again. Kathy can tell me if that's Annie Mac on the right. What is Alice doing with her hands? It's as if she's pretending to be holding the dog's reins. No idea about the dog's name. I never heard stories about a dog. He (or she) is quite handsome, though.

We scanned this one just in time. Little Ruthie is fading away.

Dot, not Ruth.

A Day at the Beach & Dot and Ruth

Ah, the Jersey shore! There is a whole series of photos of the Bierbaums and friends at the beach. This one photo shares a page with one of many photos of Alice's youngest siblings, Dot and Ruth, in 1922.

On the flip side, we have two girls in their finery. The girl on the right looks like the girl we saw in "Home, June, 1921". Below that we might have Dot or Ruthie on the front porch.
